“ | Oh, and detective? I think you’ll find that with enough power and a good enough cause... we at Dark Matters can laugh at whatever we please. | ” |
—Agent Burgess[src]
Agent Burgess was Sasha Wire's mentor at Dark Matters.
Early Life[]
Agent Burgess lost one of his legs in his Mental-Emotional Fortitude Examination to become a Subdirector for Dark Matters. He went on to become a mentor to Sasha Wire as she rose through the Dark Matters ranks.
History[]
Agent Burgess designed Sasha Wire's Mental-Emotional Fortitude Examination based on the anniversary of her sister's disappearance 25 years ago. He shut down Oldtown with a false report of a sandstorm in order to trap her with the other people involved in the disappearance, Juno Steel and Mick Mercury. Agent Burgess put them through the trials they put Annie through as teenagers, with an added element of violence and seeming presence of the supernatural.
Burgess is impressed with Sasha's ability to stay level-headed and effective even in this situation and congratulates her via hologram when her exam is finished. He informs Sasha she has been promoted and will be taking over his role as Subdirector. It is unclear whether Agent Burgess has retired or been promoted himself.
Personality[]
Agent Burgess comes off as condescending and unempathetic in his brief appearance, as he finds much humor in the aftermath of the MEFE that he designed.
Relationships[]
Sasha Wire[]
Sasha had a lot of respect for Agent Burgess, and put a lot of faith in him. Burgess in turn is extremely impressed with Sasha and takes on a paternalistic pride towards her. At the end of her MEFE, when Sasha finds out it was Agent Burgess who put her through all of that, her faith and respect towards him seems to be diminished if not completely gone.
