—Rilla[src]
Amaryllis of Exile, also known as Rilla, is a local herbalist who lives on the border of the woods and is Sir Damien's fiance. She experiments with new medicines and searches for strange new plants.
Early Life[]
When Rilla was a child, her parents were doctors in the Second Citadel. However, it was discovered that her parents were witches, and as magic was illegal in the Citadel, they were exiled. Rilla stayed with her friends' parents in the meantime. Because she thought that her parents' exile was unjust, she repeatedly looked over her parents' old notes to prove that they weren't magic (or that magic was just complex medicine). However, Rilla was eventually caught and also exiled. She then built a hut outside of the Citadel to practice medicine and to wait for her parents. The Queen has lifted their exiles, though her parents have yet to return. Her dad had at least some interest in plants or legends, as Rilla remarks that the Moonlit Hermit looks "just like Dad's notes described it!"[2]
History[]
Rilla is kidnapped by Lord Arum, a lizard monster, and tasked with curing his Keep of its illness, but given no tools with which to do so. She attempts to trick him into letting her go with a fake cure but is unsuccessful. She attempts to escape the Keep with use of the Moonlit Hermit, but accidentally unleashes a violent monster that attempts to kill her. Arum fights it off her and the Keep expels it from its walls. She and Arum come to a better agreement and succeed in curing the Keep, finding its ailment to have been the result of sleep deprivation. Arum lets Rilla go, but she is pursued by her monster and resigns herself to her inevitable death. Sir Caroline arrives and slays the monster with ease. Rilla is impressed and grateful, until Sir Caroline accuses her of treason for helping Lord Arum. She says the only way her treason could be lifted is if she leads her to Arum, so that he can be killed. Rilla leads her off in the wrong direction, north towards the Terminus sea. They see Porcus and Trotter heading toward the beach and mentioning Lord Arum, so they follow. They enter the court and witness Arum's trial, but are discovered as humans and put on trial themselves. Rilla admits her love for Lord Arum on the stand, to the disgust of most everyone present. Rilla and Caroline are put in jail, and the witch Quanyii offers to release them, for the cost of a favor. Caroline insists Rilla would be making a horrible mistake to agree, but Rilla tells Caroline she has lost her trus, and makes the deal with Quanyii.
They delve deeper into the Fort. Rilla eventually meets up with Arum, as well as her fiancee Sir Damien. The three have a fight. Damien teleports Arum to safety with his holy powers, and then storms off, feeling betrayed by Rilla. Rilla, alone, witnesses the ghosts of Pix and David, a monster and human couple who lived in Fort Terminus a very long time ago, have the same conversation over and over, and die over and over. She is found by her brother Talfryn and Quanyii, who pull her out of her head and take her to find the Fear monster. Sir Damien, Sir Angelo, and Sir Caroline join them and together they defeat it. Rilla falls off the edge of the world in the process, but Caroline jumps over to save her, and Rilla uses the mud Caroline supplies her with to form a portal to safety. They sat aside their differences, Rilla expressing how highly she thinks of Caroline now and Caroline responding that everything she's said is true and also Rilla's hair is nice, she likes the shine of it. Rilla, Arum, and Damien speak to each other and eventually decide to try a polyamorous relationship.
When Olala comes to visit, Rilla doesn't really know how to act around her and isn't used to children despite her boyfriends both being down for babysitting. She generally tries to ignore Olala.
Personality[]
Cool, collected, and reliable. Likes people, but really likes her alone time. She is very inventive, having built her own recording device.[2] Is prone to overworking when trying to solve problems.
Calmer than Sir Damien. Great singing voice, as evident by her singing "Meet Me By the River" in multiple episodes. She also plays guitar well, and was able to build her own.[3] Her singing is good enough to earn coin from busking in Silvershore.[4]
Relationships[]
Sir Damien[]
She is Sir Damien's long time fiancée. She worries about his safety fighting monsters, but loves and takes care of him. Damien writes her lots of poems! It's cute as hell!
They met when Damien, as a knight-in-training, had become so hypochondriac the rest of the Citadel's healers had grown reluctant to examine him. When he finally was genuinely ill with Spider Queen venom, he turned to Rilla, who fell in love with his "beautiful, and so funny" storytelling, and then with him. He told her at least one thinly veiled story about an extremely beautiful, and even more intelligent, doctor.[3]
When Rilla finally brings up with Damien that he doesn't want to marry him, he is incredibly heartbroken by the news and a little angry. Still, he resolves to move past it and wants them to find a new way to commemorate their love.
Sir Marc[]
Rilla and Marc were close friends as children, and they have a sibling-like relationship. Rilla also provides Marc with the leg medication he needs to survive. Although his irresponsibility exasperates her, she cares a lot about him and does her best to make sure he's healthy. Marc, for his part, describes her as his sister...his doctor, his mother, and, on one very special occasion, his sous chef.[5]
Sir Talfryn[]
Rilla often acts in an older sisterly way to Talfryn.
Lord Arum[]
Lord Arum kidnapped Rilla after she found and took home his top-secret weird grub for study[6], and began collaborating with her in the hope that her medical knowledge would help him heal The Keep. While their relationship was initially antagonistic, they grew to appreciate each other's talents, and subsequently developed romantic feelings for each other. They share a strong passion for science.
Sir Caroline[]
Often butt heads, but have a mutual respect for each other.
Quanyii[]
Oh man.

Trivia[]
- An Amaryllis is a genus of plant that produces flowering bulbs. They are one of numerous genera with the common name "lily" due to their flower shape and growth habit. However, they are only distantly related to the true lily, Lilium.[7]
- Rilla absolutely hates the color pink.[8]
- Rilla is allergic to raspberries, which cause her tongue to swell up. However, she loves the taste and sometimes eats them anyway.
- Rilla is "straight-up named for Anne of Green Gables' daughter," Harley Takagi Kaner subsequently making it a nickname for Amaryllis.[9]
- Rilla is extremely self conscious about her singing, and hates doing it for other people.[4] Despite this, she sings for both Damien and Arum upon meeting them.[3]
