A late-night crime on Christmas Eve gets Mary Anne and Chance Sequoyah a whole lot of trouble... and a visitor that neither of them could have expected.
Episode Summary[]
The episode begins with Mary Anne (now Mary Anne Sequoyah) and Chance Sequoyah trekking through the snow. They had left the children and their horse, Moonshine, back at home in order to complete a heist on Christmas Eve for their family's big Christmas dinner.
The plan was for Chance to raid the unsuspecting Parson's family pantry as Mary Anne stayed watch at the door. While waiting, Mary Anne hears a baby crying in the distance. She's surprised to find the baby abandoned, wrapped in a blanket in the snow. Unfortunately, while heading out to check on the noise, Mary Anne left her post at the door and forgot to warn Chance about the two men standing around the houses, chatting amongst themselves. Mary Anne ends up bringing the baby with her in her coat as she runs back to warn Chance about the two men patrolling around the neighborhood. Together, they manage to make a narrow escape from the house.
Chance finds a barn for her and Mary Anne to hide out in while they wait for the police to stop looking for them. While Mary Anne and Chance discuss how they plan to safely leave and return home, the baby in Mary Anne's coat begins crying. In order to distract Chance from the child, Mary Anne begins blabbering nonsense and crying to mask the baby's cries. Mary Anne then sends Chance on a wild goose chase for a blanket to protect her from the cold in order to distance her from the baby while Mary Anne concocts a plan to mask the baby until they return home. Mary Anne becomes distracted thinking about how she plans on hiding the baby from Chance when Chance finds her talking to the baby.
Chance takes to the baby well, greeting them and asking them their name. Mary Anne apologizes for taking on another child, knowing full well that Chance and her can barely make ends meet for the kids back at home already. Chance accepts the child as one of their own and admits that she knew Mary Anne has been hiding the child ever since she saw her pick them up outside the Parson's house. The episode ends with Chance and Mary Anne wishing each other Merry Christmas.
