Dampierre is Sir Marc's horse and stalwart companion. Sir Marc can communicate with Dampierre by interpreting his body language and frequently has full conversations with him. Dampierre has demonstrated himself to be quite intelligent, such as taking Marc's keys and running so that Sir Damien could not catch him, or investigating Sir Talfryn's disappearance at the hands of The Janus Beast.

History

Dampierre has been Sir Marc's horse since the beginning of the series. One of the only times he ever goes against Sir Marc is when he duels Talfryn during the invasion of Silvershore.

Personality

Although he is a horse, Damipierre is a very intelligent creature who appears to be very loyal to Marc, although he does question Marc's choices at times. He appears to enjoy assisting Marc as a service horse but is often snarky to him. He is inquisitve as he looks for Talfryn when he went missing during the Janus Beast debacle. Marc seems to think Dampierre might be self conscious about his appearance.

Abilities

Dampierre trained for years alongside Marc to help him with jousting and duelling. Marc made his saddle to both anchor him to the horse and have different settings with different amounts of flexibility. Dampierre is also very intelligent.

Relationships

Marc

Damipierre acts as Sir Marc's loyal steed and service animal. Damipierre appears to antagonize Sir Marc much of the time, although it is hard to tell as Damipierre is a horse and is hard to be understood by anyone but Marc. Marc often sounds offended by what Damipierre has to say, though this could be him projecting his thoughts in order to externalise them. Marc has had Dampierre for many years, and is very attached to him.

Talfryn

Dampierre shows severe distress when Sir Marc duels Talfryn, and seems to disapprove of Marc's choices alongside Talfryn.

Amaryllis of Exile

Rilla jokingly refers to Dampierre as her best friend, rather than Marc- though this may have been teasing on her part.

Trivia

• Dampierre's intelligence seems to be unique among horses- Angelo attempts to both talk to and read to his horse Porthos, who does not pay attention.
