Diamond Hijikata also called Glitter by her mother, is Juno's ex-fiancee and daughter of the former head of the 151st precinct of the Hyperion City Police Department. She met Juno at the library when they both were still students. Diamond is described by Juno as having deep blue eyes and silver-white hair.
History[]
Juno first mentioned Diamond in Juno Steel and the Promised Land (Part 3) during his inner monologue about all the things that went wrong in his life. Juno mentions his mother, Ben and "all that junk that happened in the HCPD with Diamond and Captain Hijikata...". Juno mentions the name again when making a list of people whom he lost, probably due to his own faults, which also includes his mother, Ben and Nureyev.
At least Rita and Mick seem to know Diamond, or know about her relationship with Juno. Diamond is mentioned by Mick Mercury in Juno Steel and the Man of the Future (Part 2). Mick is under the influence of the THEIA Soul and tries to convince Juno that he too would be better off under the THEIA's influence. He brings up Juno's struggle with self-destructive behaviour after leaving the HCPD including addiction, implying that is the reason people in Juno's life keep abandoning him, like Diamond, Sasha and his former partner at HCPD Puck Falco. Rita gets very upset when Mick mentions Diamond's name. She claims that Mick is wrong and that Diamond was gone before Juno left the HCPD, but Juno asks her to drop the topic, because he needs to think.
During a flashback in Juno Steel and the Soul of the People (Part 2) Juno suspects that Diamond might have send Rita as a prank during his first day at work at HCPD. When they are leaving Hyperion City at the end of this episode Juno thinks of "all the spots I’d been with Diamond back in the day".
Prior to Buddy Aurinko's own wedding in Juno Steel and What Lies Beyond, she and Juno briefly discuss the stress and bad memories of his own near-wedding to Diamond that wedding planning has brought up in him. This is the first time the nature of their relationship is confirmed, and the first time any pronouns are used for Diamond.
In Juno Steel and the Embrace of Ice (Part 1) Juno ponders about his time at the HCPD when he and Puck Falco were partners and he was engaged to the daugther of their boss, Captain Hijikata. By then Juno seems to be less troubled by the memories of Diamond, thinking of her as a person he once loved. He is even able to think about the things he admired in Diamond back in the day, without feeling upset about it.
Diamond is described by Juno and her mother as a strong-willed person, quite smart and always willing to push her mother's buttons. When Captain Hijikata arrested an friend of Diamond's for selling illegal substances, Diamond rallied her friends to protest in front of the HCPD. However, Diamond is used to a affluent lifestyle, as indicated by her and her mother being used to eating at expensive restaurants and getting whatever they want.
Diamond's relationship with her mother seems somewhat tense. She gets upset about her mother invading her and Juno's date for work matters. Juno confides in her when he learns that her mother is a corrupt cop on the payroll of several crime syndicates and she promises to help. Diamond ultimately withholds information from Juno because she prioritizes her education not being disrupted over holding her mother accountable. Their wedding is called off.
Personality[]
Diamond has a very positive, can-do attitude. She believes in herself and her loved ones, and does whatever she can to support them.
After the schism between her mother and her fiancee, Diamond is conflicted and becomes disillusioned from her previous outlook on life. She realizes that living her life in the way that she chooses is worth sacrificing her principles, and that she can't save the world by herself or have everything she wants.
Abilities[]
Diamond seems to be a very sociable person. She is very much into dressing up (for investigations) and snooping around.
Also, she's great at annoying her mother.
Relationships[]
Captain Hijikata[]
Diamond has a complicated relationship with her mother. Captain Hijikata often infantalizes Diamond, belittling her anti-police activism. Diamond, while personally opposed to her mother's politics, still speaks to her often and relies on her financially.
After her mother and her fiancee have a falling out, Diamond takes her mother's side for fear that she will lose the money she needs to continue her education.
Juno Steel[]
Juno is Diamond's ex fiancee. The two of them met in the library of the HCPD Police Academy while Juno was privately crying about the death of his brother Benzaiten.
Diamond and Juno both thought the world of each other, and stage directions reveal they each had never loved anyone more than the other up to that point. When Juno comes to Diamond with evidence against her mother she is at first genuinely willing to follow up on it, but after thinking about it in private she psychs herself out with the idea that her mother will be arrested and she will lose her money for school, while organized crime simply finds another foothold in the HCPD within a few months. Thus, Diamond takes her mother's side and breaks off her engagement with Juno.
When he visits her mother's house on the day they were to be married, Diamond comes out to tell Juno he cannot see her mother because she has a restraining order, and ends up confessing that she withheld information from him about the case. Juno is appalled, and she does her best to explain herself, even though she also feels guilty. She invites Juno back inside, hoping that they can sit down and perhaps rekindle their relationship. Juno tells her he will only stay if he can confront her mother, and Diamond tearfully goes back inside.
The two of them have not seen each other in the 17 years since.
