Fort Terminus is an outpost on the northern edge of the world, and is one of the few places Monsters work together to maintain. However, even the monsters fear the untold horrors contained within its walls. Both times in recorded history that monsters have truly united to work together, they used the fort to store their weapons.

History

Humans and Monsters used to live together within the fort, and the original Spiral Sage used to hold court in the tower that held its entrance, mediating disputes and sharing visions. In the past few years leading up to the events of the Spiral Sage arc, Judge Helicoid has overlooked judgement and proceedings while masquerading as the original Spiral Sage.

Three thousand years ago, before the First Citadel was destroyed, was the last time the monsters and humans worked together. They used the fort as an armory, to store horrors and weapons. Monsters and humans worked together to build a bridge off the edge of the world in the form of the tower, but when it was destroyed by the Off-Worlders, they both blamed each other. Monster-human relations never recovered.

Currently, the fort is where Monsters store anything they do not wish to deal with, and send those they have exiled. Originally it was to throw them off the edge of the world. Most recently it is used to house the Fear Weapon that Lord Arum created for the monster senate to destroy The Second Citadel. Prisoners were sentenced to the Fort for petty charges, and forced to dig tunnels to feed the weapon. After the weapon was destroyed, the Fort was abandoned

Layout

Fort Terminus is built under the infinitely-replenishing ocean at the northern edge of the world. It is built out of porous, cursed stone that blocks all but the most powerful magic. The interior is a labyrinth of tunnels and abandoned rooms. At least one section consists of ancient, two bedroom apartments, with windows that look out into the Terminus sea. There is at least one balcony that hangs out under the terminus waterfall, over the edge of the world.

The only entrance into the fort is through the cells that it shares walls with. The cells have two doors, one that leads inside the fort, and one out into the cell blocks. To reach those cell blocks one must either go through a passage in the Spiral Sage's court room, or through the holding cells. Both paths involve a dangerous labyrinth of traps.
