Horace Rao is the patriarch of the Rao family who speaks mostly in grunts and mumbles by choice. His grandfather created Grandpappy's Recipe, which he spent most of his life selling the products of in order to further his grandfathers legacy. He assisted Peter Nureyev in the theft of Grandpappy's Recipe.
Early Life[]
Was dedicated to continueing his grandfather's legacy by heading the family company. Married Grant at some point, and after he died would bring Saraswatan Orchids to his grave.
At some point, Nureyev started his con with Horace and convinced him that they would run away together after he sold Grandpappy's Recipe.
History[]
He is incredibly antagonistic to Juno when he arrives to offer his services of security to the Raos, possibly because he knows Nureyev is already planning on stealing Grandpappy's Recipe, and Horace is planning on helping him. Also very resistant to Rita's help, likely for the same reasons. When Rita confronts the family about Horace having helped the thief, he starts speaking about how he feels stifled by the family legacy and wants to have that spark he had with his late husband again. Melinda and Skipper are both sympathetic to him.
Personality[]
Surly old man. Speaks incoherently, and it seems Melinda and Skipper are the only people who can understand him, which is cute.
Relationships[]
Melinda Rao[]
Horace often orders Melinda around, which she generally accepts without question. She also acts as translator for him when he chooses not to speak clearly.
Skipper Rao[]
Skipper is every part the grumpy teenager, and doesn't like how Horace bosses around his mom.
Peter Nureyev[]
Horace clearly had very strong romantic feelings for Nureyev, enough to throw away his entire living for the chance at a fresh start. It is unknown how Nureyev acted on his end of this, but he clearly intentionally manipulated Horace for access to Grandpappy's Recipe. Kind of #Girlboss of him to be honest.
