“ | It’s been coming down to this for days. A dark cell in a Martian tomb; two masked assistants crowding me on either side; Miasma standing in the doorway, looking at me with all the interest of an old chair she’s been meaning to throw out for weeks. My name’s Juno Steel, and this is probably where I die. |

Juno Steel and the Final Resting Place is the eighteenth episode and the finale of the first season of The Penumbra Podcast. It was released November 8, 2016.
Overview[]
In all likelihood, this is the end. The only question is: the end of how much? The end of Juno Steel… that’s pretty likely. Alone in a Martian tomb, Peter Nureyev gone, and Miasma’s experiments drawing to a close. Juno will outlive his usefulness any minute now, and if Miasma has her way, he won’t outlive for long.
And if it’s the end of Juno Steel, it may well be the end of Mars, too: with Miasma’s hands on the Egg of Purus, a super-weapon strong enough to destroy the entire Ancient Martian civilization, this human civilization doesn’t stand much of a chance. What does Miasma have planned for that Martian wasteland? Where is Peter Nureyev? And just how much will Juno Steel lose? Because surely, this is the end, the final resting place… but how much will end here, today?

Episode Summary[]
Juno is about to be killed by Miasma, when Nureyev, disguised as one of her guards, shoots Miasma instead. They look around the Martian "tomb" and find the stolen Martian artifacts Miasma had been collecting. Here they also find the Egg of Purus, the bomb that killed all the Martians.
Miasma, who turns out to still be alive, catches them off guard and activates the bomb. Through his mind reading ability Juno discovers that she used the artifacts to become a Martian herself and is now able to split and regenerate. In this process Juno looses his eye and the ability to read others' minds. Miasma, Juno and Nureyev fight and they realize that she wants to use the bomb to kill everyone on Mars. When he is about to leave the room with Nureyev, Juno decides to stay behind to keep Miasma at bay and sacrifice himself. Nureyev only realizes this once Juno locks the door and urges him not to do it. But Juno refuses and confesses to Nureyev that his biggest regret is not leaving Mars with him with him, when he offered it. The bomb goes off, but it turns out that it only killed Martians, so Miasma is gone, but Juno, though badly hurt, is alive. Nureyev takes him to a hospital and afterwards to and hotel, where they spend the night together. The confess their feelings for each other, but Juno leaves in the middle of the night while Nureyev is still asleep, since he thinks his task in the Hyperion City is more important than his own chance at happiness.
