“ | Oh, I'm not asking. Just warning. Because when I find out what you're up to, Chip Hoffman, there's not going to be any of this, you know, hiding behind Lydia and asking her to save you and all that. There won't be anywhere you can run that I won't get you, no matter how long it takes me to find out what you're up to. | ” |
—Lawrence Hoffman
Lawrence Hoffman, born Lawrence Gaspard, is a xenobiologist known for inventing the technique that can bring animals back to life, which eventually evolved to include humans. He was hired by the Dokana Group to assist them in their ressurection research.
Early Life[]
For many years, successfully conducted research on alien life in the Milky-Way Galaxy. Published several books with speculative models on xenobiology with his then wife, Lydia Hoffman.
20 years ago, hosted a dinner party with his then wife for Minty Kensington, a representative for a large unnamed pharma corporation, to try and get sponsor money. This dinner party ended with his pet bird Monty dead, which he felt guilty for even after decades had passed.
History[]
At some point, Mick Mercury gets into contact with him to request a resurrection of his old dog, Wilco. This was successful, despite Wilco struggling to stay put together, and Mick put Juno Steel in contact with Lawrence. After meeting with him and finding out was not there to treat his pet, Lawrence gets nervous and tries to ask him to leave, but Juno instead gets him talking about Monty the undead alien cockatiel. This distracts Lawrence effectively, and Lawrence ends up hiring Juno to find out what happened at the dinner party 20 years ago.
Personality[]
Lawrence has poor memory, and often gives off an air of a bumbling fool, but in reality can get incredibly nasty. Not afraid to use intimidation or insults to get his way, especially if he thinks its for the greater good, which is always. Very dedicated to his work and very power hungry.
Abilities[]
Able to ressurect animals, including dogs and birds. Will sometimes have to use "spare parts" in this process.
Relationships[]
Lydia Hoffman[]
Originally they got along and had a lot of respect for each other professionally, but as they continued to work together Lydia noticed how Lawrence would disregard her boundaries in regards to their work and berate her for not going along with her ideas. Lydia avoided divorcing him due to how they were far more profitable as a pair of doctors, but goes through with it after Monty's death. She leaves him behind and wants nothing to do with him afterwards.
Chip Hoffman[]
Chip and Lawrence have an incredibly strained relationship. When Chip is living with him and Lydia for ten years, Lawrence is very disapproving of how Chip bums off them without getting a job. He is incredibly suspicious of Chip and explicitely does not like him. In return, Chip is terrified of Lawrence, and is paranoid about Lawrence pursueing him even 20 years after the last time they saw each other.
Minty Kensington[]
Lawrence seemed unaware of his wife's previous relationship with Minty. Minty is very jealous of Lawrence.
