Lydia Hoffman is a xenobiozoologist who values her privacy and is very protective of her brother, Chip Hoffman.
Early Life[]
Had a succesful career publishing books with speculative models on xenobiology with her then husband, Lawrence Hoffman. On one of their expiditions across the universe, they picked up Monty the alien cockatiel. Lydia was very fond of Monty, and trained him to speak.
Before the dinner party 27 years ago, she met Minty Kensington, their guest, half an hour early at the door. They shared a bottle of wine, and Minty confessed her love to her. Lydia, knowing she cannot return Minty's affections, told her that she loves her as a friend. During the dinner, after everyone else is rendered unconscious, she brought up with her brother the fact that he had been stealing from her and Lawrence, to which he plays dead instead of answering. Unfortunately, Monty overheard this and kept repeating her accusation. For this reason, Lydia killed her favorite pet. After this event, she divorced Lawrence and blamed it on him having killed Monty, despite her knowing it not to be true.
History[]
When Juno tracks her down using her brother, they discuss the dinner 27 years ago, and Lydia eventually confesses to having killed Monty. In return for Juno not telling Lawrence the truth about Monty or that he had managed to track down Lydia, she informs Juno that her ex-husband had been working with the Dokana Group.
Personality[]
A very severe and intelligent woman. Would do anything for her little brother. Advises Juno against trusting Lawrence or working with him.
Relationships[]
Chip Hoffman[]
The two are very close. After their parents adopted Chip, they basically forgot about him, and Lydia raised him. She often has to bail him out of trouble, and can get very exasperated with him, Even in their old age, they still have breakfast and talk every Wednesday.
Lawrence Hoffman[]
Lawrence was emotionally manipulative to Lydia, and after nearly 30 years Lydia is perfectly content never coming into contact with him again.
Minty Kensington[]
Minty and Lydia had a one night stand together in college, and after ten years Minty still had affections for Lydia. Lydia did not return these feelings. Despite claiming to cherish their platonic love for each other, the two never spoke again after the dinner.
