“ | Thank you kindly for the distraction, Chivalry. Bless your loyal wings; with the weight of a friend on my shoulder... why, I feel i could perform miracles. O great Saint Damien! I humbly request your aid, as you promised in the dead of night! | ” |
—Sir Tristan the Cold[src]
Sir Tristan the Cold is a ruthless exorcist, working as a knight of the Second Citadel and specialising in what he calls exorcisms to get rid of demons. These generally involve starvation and torture. His cold disposition while commiting such acts is what earned him the title of "Cold". He is also an avid follower of Saint Damien, often slaying monsters in his name. He was first mentioned in Season 3, when Queen Mira is confronting The Kite about the flaws of the old knights- Tristan is described as having performed an exorcism known to be deadly on a person who showed no signs of possession.[1]
Early Life[]
Tristan was a squire alongside Sir Lamorak[2] and was active as a knight during the era of "Great Knights" under the King. Tristan did not always torture people with ease- in his younger days he would hesitate due to seeing the person instead of the demon inside someone. He once performed a miracle with the help of Saint Damien to slay the demon inside his wife, Isolde. Saint Damien told Tristan to strike her with his blessed spear, but Tristan hesitated before going through with it. Because of this, Isolde died from her wounds three days after[3]. He was the first man in one hundred years to slay a demon without killing it's host, but he still ultimately killed his wife in the act. Since that moment he resolved to never question his Saint again. He was made to retire when Queen Mira took the crown due to his so-called exorcisms killing more innocent people than they did demons. After the invasion of The Kite, Queen Mira brought several old knights out of retirement to act as mentors to the new generation of knights, as advised by Captain Absolon.
History[]
Tristan recruits Damien to his cause on instruction from what he believed to be Saint Damien. He transports them both to Silvershore with the help of this "Saintly" power, before recruiting Sir Lamorak, and transporting 25 knights to Silvershore as well. The morning after this he begins his assault on the W.E.P Clocktower, wherin lies the protective spirit of Silvershore. Once he realised he has been manipulated by Sir Galahad this entire time, he stabs his fellow knight in the shoulder with his spear glowing with Saint Damien's holy light and dies in the act.
Personality[]
Cold, ruthless, and an avid follower of his Saint.
Abilities[]
Incredibly charismatic, skilled at manipulation. Has the power to perform miracles with the power of Saint Damien, though he has only done this twice. Can throw javelins and daggers with incredible accuracy.[4] Talfryn describes him as "pretty fit for an old guy", saying he climbs the Tower of Two Thousand steps every morning,[5] though considering how he struggles with climbing the W.E.P Clocktower, this may not be true.[6]
Relationships[]
Chivalry[]
He loves that bird so so much. So many pet names.
Damien the Pious[]
Tristan wants a genuine relationship with Damien as they are the only men alive to have performed miracles. Damien hates Tristan with a passion.
Sir Lamorak[]
Old coworkers. They seem to dislike each other- Tristan steals Posidonia's pearl in order to trick Lam into helping him with the invasion of Silvershore. Tristan wants to connect with Lam, since they both have dead wives. Lam does not like Tristan since he is an avid monster killer.
