The Piranha (as nicknamed by Juno) is a sadistic mercenary with a jagged, toothy face. She was employed by Ramses O'Flaherty.

History

The Piranha and her subordinate Bosco work for Babbling Brook Realty together, swapping lawyer Maia King's cat, Pippa, with Dr. Munrovian's designer pet bomb after she took on the realty company in a class action suit on behalf of local Oldtown residents who had been evicted from their homes. She was the only one of the three to escape justice.

Yasmin Swift is given the Piranha's description as her contact to receive payment for sabotaging a Polaris Park and murdering three of its engineers.

Later, the Piranha, along with Fish Lips and Anemone, assists Pilot Pereyra in their burglary of the First Museum of Colonized History in Hyperion City to steal a map of archaic subway tunnels.

Pereyra brings the Piranha with them on their expedition to the legendary uptopic city, the Free Dome. The Piranha antagonizes Juno Steel and Alessandra Strong after discovering the PIs underground with them, encouraging Pereyra to bring them along through the old subway tunnels with them as hostages to test for traps. It is clear she does not hold Pereyra in great respect, but Steel and Strong are shocked when the Piranha murders Pereyra in cold blood. It becomes apparent that the Piranha, who has periodically claimed to be listening to a sports broadcast on her comms, and furthermore knew a suspicious amount of information about Juno's cybernetic eye, has been working for Ramses O'Flaherty throughout the season. In a fight with Juno, she confesses all but the name of her employer, mocking Juno for his faith in O'Flaherty. He fatally shoots her in a struggle and discovers her comms had been tuned to the mayoral election results.

Personality

The Piranha is consistently described as particularly sadistic, illustrated by moments such as when she shoots and kills a security guard in the Hyperion Museum just to make a point. She appreciates pain in any context, whether it be towards her or towards other people.

Abilities

She is skilled in criminal activities such as kidnapping, ransom, coercion, murder, and torture.

Relationships

Ramses O'Flaherty

Ramses was her true employer before both of their deaths. She seemed ambivalent about his politics and followed him because he paid her well.

Pilot Pereyra

The Pirhana pretended to work for Pilot in order to distract them and get them out of Hyperion City. This made it appear as if Pilot had abandoned the city right before the election and contributed to O'Flaherty's landslide win.

Juno Steel

She and Juno share a mutual dislike, but Ramses insisted she not kill him and vice versa. Despite Ramses' attempted interference via Juno's cybernetic eye, Juno eventually shot her dead in the desert after she revealed who they both were really working for.  

Trivia

• The Piranha has asthma. While exploring the abandoned subway tunnels with Pilot, she mentions that the dust is causing her asthma to flare up.
• Very little is known about The Piranha's early life. It has never been revealed how she became to be so heavily scarred, but it was most likely either a result of her background in organized crime or the brutal War between the Outer Rim and Solar planets that ended several years before the Juno Steel series takes place.
