The Western Wastes is the commonly accepted name for the western region of the world in Tales of the Second Citadel.
Flora[]
The Western Wastes are a mostly arid region intercut with many beautiful rivers. The vegetation is 'ruby-golden'.[1] They are most famous for their Everdead trees, around which vegetation thrives. This is because the base soil of the Wastes is completely inhospitable to plant life, and life can only grow in the shallow layer of loam formed by the decomposition of the Everdeads' ever-falling leaves.
Fauna[]
The wastes are inhabited by some desert animals like jackals and buzzards.[2] They are additionally inhabited by dinosaur-like monsters such as the King Tyrantlizard.
Locations[]
The Garden of Graves[]
“ | In the Garden of Graves it doesn't matter if you're good or bad, or a human or a monster. Everyone deserves a final place to rest, a final recognition that for a time they were alive, and now that time is over, and it is special because it can never come back. | ” |
A convent inhabited by what some might call witches, who care for the Everdead trees and the dead. Also called Corpsegarden by those of the Second Citadel. Some Sisters were able to use magic, including healing magic. They uphold strong beliefs about the necessity of death in the creation of life, which is exemplified by the Everdeads providing the foundation for all life in the Wastes. The Sisters there have rigorous combat training.[3]
The Western Edge of the World[]
The Western edge of the world, also called the Falls at World's End,[4] much like the Northern edge, is a waterfall. It is a joined rapids where every river ends and falls into the abyss.[1]
